BauerLatoza Studio developed this prototype of an extensive green roof system characterized by low maintenance plantings, reduced need for irrigation, and shallow planting meduim. In a true extensive green roof system the prime focus is on the environmental benefit of the green roof, not the garden. This deisgn strives to take the environmental benefits of an extensive system and combine them with the variety and interest of a typical urban garden. This is accomplished using sedums, prairie grasses, herbs and ornamental grasses in an unpredictable manner that highlights a simple patio retreat.
