South Shore Cultural Center — Nature Center
Chicago, Illinois
Client: Chicago Park District
Cost: $400,000
The landscape architecture for the 1.5-acre Nature Center supplemented the existing trees and shrubs with new native trees, ornamental plantings, shrubs and native grasses. A soft surface and boardwalk pedestrian pathway system was developed to provide an accessible route through the Center, ending at a viewing platform at the lake’s edge. Interpretive signage was planned throughout the area with seating provided by benches and a council ring.
