Yates Elementary School

Chicago, Illinois

Client: Chicago Public Schools

Cost: $2,000,000

Richard Yates Elementary School, built in 1896, embodied the classical style of school buildings. The original school building is constructed of ornate terra cotta and corbelled masonry. Of particular note are two angelic terra cotta figures flanking the embossed name of the school. Each angel is over 5 feet tall, 3 feet deep and created from a single piece of terra cotta.

BauerLatoza Studio was the Architect of Record for the renovation and restoration of Yates School which included the original 1896 building and two subsequent additions (1924, 1961). The scope of work included a complete exterior restoration as well as integrating new interior mechanical and electrical upgrades.
