2120 South Michigan Avenue is one of the key physical artifacts of Chicago’s Blues Heaven Foundation.The social and historic importance of this building comes from its being the original home of Chess Recording Studio.During its 10 years at 2120, Chess Studio was responsible for recording such artists as Willie Dixon, the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and a host of others.Chess Recording Studio and its artists continue to have a worldwide impact on music and culture.
BauerLatoza Studio worked closely with the Foundation in the adaptive reuse, rehabilitation and restoration of this important building. Phase I of the project encompassed the restoration of the exterior façade.Phase II included the rehabilitation and restoration of the interior.
