In 1994, after the Reliance Building was all but demolished, the City acknowledged its significance as the first example of the famous system of steel-frame “Chicago construction,” and resolved to restore and redevelop the property to ensure its longevity. Selected by the Department of Planning Development, BauerLatoza Studio managed the exterior restoration of this 1895 steel frame “skyscraper” designed by Daniel Burnham and Charles Atwood.
