The station is the headquarters for the harbormaster and the charter boat director. It contains bathing facilities for visiting boaters, public restrooms, concessions and areas for outdoor dining.

In its annual Public Interest Awards, Architectural Record distinguished the Station in 1990 as one of America’s Ten Best Public Buildings for that year. Both the harbormaster's house and the fish cleaning station continue to accommodate thousands of visitors each year.
